The story of Eton’s success began in 1928 in the small village of Gånghester in Sweden. Annie and David Pettersson ran a successful sawmill until the recession forced them to start a new business. Annie started to make fine clothes for the people in the village and the company grew. She focused on shirts for men and in the 1950’s a salesman bought the collection of shirts to the United Kingdom.

The name for the company “Skjortfabriken Special” was impossible to pronounce abroad and the name had to be adjusted to the international export markets and the name Eton was chosen. The ethos behind the company was the association with class and sophisticated elegance, and it still is. But Gånghester and Grandma Annie’s philosophy, never to hand over an item until you are completely satisfied, never changed; it’s still the foundation of the Eton philosophy.
